Gerard Germain is a Haitian-American physician[3], author, motivational speaker, philanthropist, and inventor. He is known for his autobiographical book The Luckiest Man Who Grew Up in an Engineered and Manufactured Poverty often shortened to and better known as The Luckiest Man. The book details his journey from growing up in a poor country to become a doctor in the United States. [4]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Germain was born in Port-Au Prince, Haiti in the West Indies to Gerald Isly Germain and Marie Therese Germain.

He obtained his Doctor of Medicine from Universidad del Noreste in Tampico, Tamulipas, Mexico in 1988.[5]

Career[edit]

Germain has been active in the medical field since 1988. He has published and co-authored several research papers regarding that field. The list includes Prediction of (CHF) Congestive Heart Failure based on Changes on Signal Averaging EKG (with Rodika Coloka Kump, M.D), Patient Compliance and Reversal of Disease on Zero Cholesterol Diet in collaboration (with Joel H.Furman M.D), and Study of diflucan/ Fluconazole use (with Peter B. Berkley, M.D). In 2013, he published a study guide titled G’s Medical Study Guide.[6]

As an author, he has written several poems, songs and books. He wrote the book Valentine’s Day and has contributed to books The Funny Bunch and Rape is Real: The Truth Revealed.[7] In 2020, he published his autobiography The Luckiest Man Who Grew Up in an Engineered and Manufactured Poverty. The autobiography describes his migration from Haiti to the US, poverty in Haiti, France’s exploitation of Haiti and the country’s history. [8]

Germain is married and has three children. He has three brothers and three sisters. German is fluent in English, French, Creole and Spanish.[9]
