Gerhard Götze
Gerhard Götze (*1948 in Frankfort am Main) is a German documentary filmmaker, gallerist, publicist and editor.[1][2] Since 1990 he has been the editor-in-chief of the art journal NIKE NEW ART IN EUROPE, which was founded in 1983.[3]
Biography[edit]
Moving frequently between Berlin and Frankfort, Götze first came into contact with visual artists, including the painter and visual arts educator, Christof Drexel and the painter and printmaker Conrad Westpfahl. He also took great interest in the exile experiences of artists and writers during the Third Reich and was active as a curator and instigator of exhibitions.
From 1982 Götze produced documentary films about early 20th-century-artists.
From 1985 on, he was increasingly involved in publishing, with a focus on texts about art and interviews he conducted himself with artists.
In 1990 Götze acquired the art journal, NIKE NEW ART IN EUROPE (then NKIE Neue Kunst in Europa), which was founded in 1983, and was based in premises on the famous Leopoldstraße in Munich, where he also ran the Kairos New Art Gallery from 1992 to 2005. [1]
