From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The German Saturday School (Melbourne, Australia) is an accredited, community-based, not-for-profit educational organisation, offering German-language tuition for kindergarten to secondary-school children.

Operations

The German Saturday School (GSS) runs half-day classes on Saturday mornings, on the premises of Clifton Hill Primary. There are classes for children in kindergarten, foundation through to Grade 6. At the secondary school level, the school prepares students for Goethe-Institut qualifications, and the Deutsches Sprachdiplom (DSD) certificate.

History

The school has a long history, relative to the educational offerings available in Victoria. An earlier incarnation of the school was operating in the 1870s, organised by the East Melbourne Lutheran Church. For reference, the Victorian State School system dates back to the 1860s and 1870s.

A lengthy description of the history of the GSS is found on the school's website.
