Gerry Cott (born 15 October 1954, in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish guitarist and songwriter, who co-founded The Boomtown Rats. He began playing flamenco guitar at the age of 11. In 1966, he saw Bob Dylan perform live in Dublin, which significantly impacted him.[1]

Gerry left The Boomtown Rats in 1982 before the recording of the band's fifth album V Deep. In 1984, he released the album I Left My Hat in Haiti, which included the single "Alphabet Town". The single reached #90 on the Canadian charts during a 9-week run in late 1984.

He now works as an animal trainer and action supervisor in films and television with his company A-Z Animals, stemming from a lifelong interest in animals. He is currently writing his first book.[2]

In 2010, Gerry Cott released the solo acoustic guitar album Urban Soundscapes.[3][4]

On 20 September 2011, Gerry Cott performed live with Bob Geldof at Cadogan Hall in Sloane Square, London, for the last three songs of the set. This marked the first time in over 30 years that the two had performed together on stage.
