Gharkun
The Gharkun is a 6620 m high glaciated mountain in the south of the Saltoro Mountains , a sub -mountain range of the Karakorum.
Location
The Gharkun is located in the disputed border region between the Pakistani territory of Gilgit-Baltistan (the former northern territories ) and the Indian Kashmir region in the southwest of the Siachen glacier . The so-called "Line of control" runs over the summit. Its northern flank is dewatered over the Gyong Glacier , while the southern flank is drained via the Chulung Glacier . On the opposite side of the Gyong glacier rises in the east-northeast direction at a distance of 11 km, the 6727 m high Gyong Kangri .
Climb history
In July 1976, a five-member Japanese mountaineering group (expedition leader Haruki Sugiyama) reached the summit.
