Gheorghiță Ciocioi
Gheorghiță Ciocioi (b. 11 November 1964) is a Romanian ethnologist, publisher and translator. With a doctor’s degree from the University of Bucharest (on a thesis about The sacrifice of the walled-up wife in the north- and south-Danube ballad. The corpus of the ballad of the walled-up wife in the Slavic south-Danube area) and a specialization in cultural anthropology and folklore, Gheorghiță Ciocioi is mainly interested in the Romanian, Balkan and Slavic ethnological and folkloric space (ballad, legend, carol, hagiography, mentalities, historical relations between the Patriarchal church and Mitropoly in Târnovo and the Romanian principalities, medieval Bulgarian literature, the history of contemporary religious life), publishing several books, articles, and translations on this topic. Between 2014 and 2015, he was the recipient of a research scholarship from the Romanian Academy, with a view to investigating the south-Danube ballad.
