Ghorba is a Syrian play of ambitious political and social aims, with the lead roles played by Duraid Lahham, Nihad Qal'i, and the Syrian cast of 'The Band of Tishreen'. The play has shed light on the state of the seventies of the Arab world through its sardonic comedy and unprecedented plot.


The events of the play revolve around a small village called "Ghorba" ruled by an unruly 'Baik' (the head of a group of people) who enslaves the residents, takes away their goods, and leaves them to suffer in intellectual retardation.

The story of the writer Muhammad al-Maghut revolves around alienation in a foreign land and the longing for home. It has involved the work and effort of many of Syria's star actors and actresses, including: Yasser el-Azma, Osama el-Romani, Samia el-Jazairi, Omar Hajjo, Sabah Jazairi, and many other stars that have collaborated on this influential work that has achieved major success in the Arab world.
