Background
"Ghost" was revealed after being leaked on September 1st with various other Diamonds & Dancefloors tracks. Upon release, Ghost was promoted as the album's third official single, as the previous 3 had only been promoted in Europe. It was featured on her website and added to mainstream weekly playlists on Spotify. A visualizer was teased on December 30, 2022 via TikTok. The full visualizer was released on March 16, 2023.
On May 10, 2023, an insider leaked that "Ghost" would have a remix with Merk & Kremont, as well as the song's release date.
Composition
The sound of the song is based off of the sound of early '90s songs. It is recorded at 120 beats per minute in a key of B minor. In the song, Max sings about the figurative "ghost" of her ex-lover that is haunting her.
