Gianluca Neri (born 23 June 1971) is an Italian film producer, television writer, radio host, and blogger. He is known for producing and writing the Netflix docuseries SanPa: Sins of the Savior (2020) and The Yara Gambirasio Case: Beyond Reasonable Doubt (2024).

Early life and career[edit]

Born in Milan, Neri began his career collaborating with the satirical weekly magazine Cuore. Together with designer Roberto Grassilli, he co-founded the internet portal Clarence in the late 1990s, one of Italy's early internet ventures. Clarence was later sold to various companies, including Lycos and Dada.[1][2]

Neri has contributed to various magazines and manages Macchianera, a multi-author blog.

Film and television[edit]

SanPa: Sins of the Savior[edit]

In 2020, Neri produced and co-wrote the Netflix docuseries SanPa: Sins of the Savior, which explores the controversial history of the San Patrignano rehabilitation community founded by Vincenzo Muccioli.[3] The series was notable for being the first Italian docuseries on Netflix and received a special mention at the 2021 Nastro d'Argento awards by the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists.[4]

The Yara Gambirasio Case: Beyond Reasonable Doubt[edit]

In 2024, Neri directed, produced, and co-wrote the Netflix docuseries The Yara Gambirasio Case: Beyond Reasonable Doubt, which investigates the high-profile murder case of 13-year-old Yara Gambirasio.[5] The series includes interviews and archival footage to provide a comprehensive look at the case.

Radio[edit]

Neri founded Macchiaradio (also known as RadioNation), an Italian web radio station that began broadcasting in 2004.[6] He hosted various radio programs on national Italian public broadcaster Rai Radio 2, including Scatole Cinesi during the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Share alongside Daniela Collu from 2014 to 2015.

Blogging and online ventures[edit]

From 2003 to 2019, Neri organized the Festa della Rete (formerly known as Blogfest), an annual gathering of internet users in Italy. The event included the Macchianera Italian Awards (MIA), which recognized the best websites and blogs on the Italian web.[7]

In 2013, during an audience at the Vatican, Neri presented Pope Francis with the MIA award for "Person of the Year".[8]
