Gideon IV was the Governor of Semien during the time when Semien was a vassal of the Axumite Empire. After he was killed in battle with Dil Na'od, his daughter, Yudit, would succeed him as Governor, and she would free Semien from Axumite rule and even destroy the Axumite Kingdom.[1]

Reign

Gideon IV was a rebellious man who wanted to free the Kingdom of Semien from Axumite vassalage. He revolted in c.960 C.E. against Axum but failed and was killed in battle.[citation needed] His daughter, Yudit, would succeed him as the Governor of Semien, and she would revolt against Aksum. Unlike her father, she was victorious and collapsed Axum into multiple states.[citation needed]
