Tamari was sent to Washington, D.C. as a reporter on behalf of Channel One and Kol Israel in 1998 until he was replaced by Yaron Dekel in 2002 , but remained in the United States to live and work. After the merger of Reshet and Channel Ten, he continued his role as a reporter in the United States until mid-2021, when Nadav Eyalignedas foreign news editor of News 13 and Gil Tamari replaced him. A few months after he began work in this position, he returned to live in Israel. In 2004, he was one of the initiators of the Hebrew edition of the business magazine Forbes and was appointed "international editor" of the magazine.

Stay and work in the United States of America[edit]

In 2011, Tamari filmed an article at the offices of the international video game development company Electronic Arts in California and falsely revealed that the company was developing a new game, "Dead Space 3", which had not yet been announced. The word of the revelation made headlines in the video game world. On the station "Nonstop Radio", Tamari broadcast reports and commentary on what was happening in the United States as part of the programme "Mash'al in the Morning with Nissim Mash'al"". Tamari regularly covered the 2012 US presidential campaign and even started a video blog on YouTube, which he updates regularly. Later, he also wrote articles on the 2016 US presidential campaign.

As part of his work as a reporter in the United States, Tamari interviewed high-ranking American personalities and politicians and covered important events. After the signing of the Vai Accord in 1998, Tamari conducted an exclusive interview with Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. He covered the Camp David Conference (2000) and was given an exclusive interview with President Bill Clinton. He covered the 9/11 attacks and the Iraq war. Tamari also interviewed President George W. Bush, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld. He also interviewed Barack Obama as a senator and presidential candidate.T92. Tamari was the only Israeli to address a question to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and receive a response from him at the UN General Assembly in 2006. A year later, Tamari again addressed a question to him while he was holding a press conference in New York, but his question was not answered.

Tamari was the only journalist to conduct a television interview with Ilan Ramon aboard the space shuttle Columbia in 2003. This interview was broadcast on the main edition of Channel 10, which had been launched a few days earlier. Documentary in Mecca[edit]

During a Saudi Arabia visit by US President Joe Biden in July 2022, Gil Tamari entered Saudi Arabia legally with his US passport and a valid visa for Saudi Arabia to cover Joe Biden's visit. During his stay, he travelled illegally to Mecca and filmed a documentary there.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

According to Islamic law and Saudi Arabian law, non-Muslims are forbidden to enter the two Holy Places of Islam, Mecca and Medina. All those who violate this law face arrest and punishment in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia has arrested a man who drove Gil Tamari through the city of Mecca in violation of the holy city’s “Muslim-only” restriction and announced it would refer both the driver and the journalist himself for prosecution.[7][8][9] This was broadcast by the Israeli news channel Channel 13 News on 18 July 2022.
