Gilbert Arthur
Gilbert Arthur is a Ghanaian-Canadian author and retired academic known for his novel Muunokhoi's Awakening. He previously served as a professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics at the University of Manitoba.

Early Life and Education

Arthur was born in Tarkwa, Ghana, and completed his early education in Accra. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Ghana before obtaining a scholarship to continue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom. He later received a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Leeds.
Academic Career
In 1982, Arthur relocated to Canada and joined the University of Manitoba, where he pursued an academic career in biochemistry and medical genetics. He later became a professor in the Faculty of Medicine and remained associated with the university for over three decades. [1]
Writing Career
After retiring during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Arthur focused on fiction writing and published his debut novel, Muunokhoi's Awakening, through FriesenPress in 2025.[2]
The novel follows a Mongolian marmot named Muunokhoi who awakens prematurely from hibernation and embarks on a journey for survival in the harsh winter landscape of Mongolia.[3]
Arthur's work has been described as combining themes of survival, family, nature, and identity.[4]
Personal Life
Arthur lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, with his wife. He has expressed interests in travelling, wildlife photography, music, and historical architecture.[5]
