Gilles Raymond  is a french entrepreneur and philanthropist. As a serial entrepreneur he has founded the News Republic company bought by Cheetah Mobile in 2016 for $57M.[1][2], then Bytedance for $86.6M[3]. Currently he is the founder and President of The Signals Network Foundation[4]

Personal life[edit]

Gilles Raymond born in Paris, has lived in different countries throughout Europe, Asia and USA.

He graduated from IPAG business school and did his master thesis about “Virtual Reality : myth or reality?” in 1994. Gilles served his country as sergeant in air assault at the R.L.A[5] based in Metz (France).

Gilles writes for different publication : The Monday Note, Techcrunch[6], WIred Innovation, including his own blog.

Gilles is 2nd Dan in Japanese Jujitsu.

He is based in Maui (HI) and Bordeaux (France).

Career[edit]

In 1994 Gilles co-set up his first company, distributing Corbis and Microsoft digital content in Europe.

After having joined Sony - Psygnosis (video game software division of the Playstation), he set up In Fusio in 1998, launching in 2001 the first technology to download games within app purchase system. The service reached 25 million paid users, and was deployed in Germany, France, UK, Spain, Italy and China through carriers such Vodafone, Orange, Telefonica and China Mobile.

After having sold In Fusio to Zenops, he set up News Republic, a mobile news aggregator supported by an artificial intelligence system working in 6 different languages including Chinese. Syndicating 2500 news organizations, the News Republic application was deployed in 14 different countries, with 12 million monthly active users. News Republic received the Best Mobile Application award from the GSM Association in 2015.[7]

Gilles joined the Board of the Global Editor Network international association of over 6,000 editors-in-chief and media executives in 2014.

In 2017 he set up and became the President of The Signals Network Foundation focus on supporting such international media collaborations that are taking the lead on reshaping the news agenda. In order to maximize the impact of published investigations the foundation provides support to selected whistleblowers.
