Gintautas Paluckas (born 19 August 1979) is a Lithuanian politician serving as Chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania since 2017. He was a Vilnius City Councilor from 2015 to 2019, also serving as Deputy Mayor of the city.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Paluckas was born in Panevėžys. In the hometown he graduated Juozas Balčikonis gymnasium. Until 2003 he studied informatics in Vilnius University. From 2003 to 2005, he worked in the State Social Security Fund. Paluckas is married to Ilma Paluckė. The couple has two children.
Political career[edit | edit source]
Paluckas started his political career in 2004 becoming a member of the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania. He started work in the staff of Social Democratic MEP Justas Vincas Paleckis in 2005. He became Head of the Vilnius Administration in 2007. Paluckas was setenced for an abuse of office during his tenure as a Head of the Vilnius Administration in 2012. After defeat in the 2016 parliamentary election, then Leader of the Social Democratic Party Algirdas Butkevičius announced that he will not seek another term as Chairman of the party. Paluckas won the leadership election defeating Mindaugas Sinkevičius in the run-off  . In 2019, Paluckas announced that he will seek a position of the Member of Seimas in a preliminary election in a Žirmūnai constituency.
