Girish Panicker Mattada is an Indian film director and film producer in the Malayalam Film Industry. He is also a short-film maker, cinematographer, scriptwriter and editor.[1] He is making his directorial debut with the crime movie The Gambinos (2018).[2]
Career[edit]
Girish Mattada started his career in film direction as an assistant[3] to director Vinayan working on Malayalam and Tamil films in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Girish then went on to pursue film studies at SAE Film School in New Zealand and New York Film Academy in Los Angeles, California. After his filmmaking courses, he went on to set up his own production company Kangaroo Broadcasting,' in Sydney, Australia.[4][5]
With also a post-graduate degree in Hotel Management, Girish has worked as a Manager at Mirvac Hotels, New Zealand and had stints with Coca Cola, ANZ Bank and Insurance Australia Group.[6]
Ad films and Short films[edit]
As an ad film maker, Girish Mattada has created ads for State Insurance, NZ, New Zealand Tourism and several small businesses in Sydney. His short films include a piece on Blue Mountains in Australia, Pure New Zealand, Lone Piper and Flower of the Forest, My Mum and Checkmate. His film Matariki was screened at Manukau Film Festival in New Zealand received acclamation for its making.[7]

Awards[edit]
In 2009 Girish Mattada won a nationwide award for an ad film he made for State Insurance New Zealand at a challenge conducted by Insurance Australia Group. [10]
Early Life[edit]
Girish Panicker Mattada was born in Tirurangadi, Malapuram District, Kerala and grew up in Kozhikode, Kerala.
After his schooling in Silver Hills High School in Kozhikode, he graduated in Hotel Management from University of Madras. He then went on to pursue a Post Graduate Degree in Hotel Management from Pacific International Management School, New Zealand before his film studies in the United States and New Zealand.
