Girlfriend Collective (Brand)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Girlfriend Collective is a slow fashion brand founded in 2016 based in Seattle, WA.[1][2][3][4] The brand makes their activewear and athleisure products out of ECONYL® Nylon and other sustainable materials.[5][2][6]

Ellie Dinh and Quang Dinh, who married in 2013, co-founded Girlfriend Collective.[2][7][4] Their products are produced in a fair trade factory in Taiwan.[8][9]

History

Girlfriend Collective was founded in 2016, but did not release any products until 2017.[10] Their initial marketing campaign relied heavily on word of mouth by giving away free leggings to anyone who shared their post on social media and paid shipping fees.[10][3][11]

Girlfriend Collective exclusively offered leggings until 2018 when they expanded their product line.[10] Their first brand collaboration was with Y7 Studio in 2019, launching a yoga wear collection.[12] They came out with their first genderless and men's collections in 2021.[13][14][15] In 2023, they partnered with resale platform Treet to facilitate the reselling of their clothes.[16]

As of 2024, their offerings include leggings, bras, tank tops, tennis skirts, and athleisure dresses in sizes XXS-6XS.[17]

About the Founders

Quang Dinh, with a background in mechanical engineering, previously founded the sustainable luxury denim brand Sling & Stone, which closed following the 2008 market crash.[11] Quang Dinh and his wife, Ellie, identified an unmet demand in the activewear market for sustainable and eco-friendly options.[9][11] In response, they co-founded Girlfriend Collective, a company focused on creating activewear with an emphasis on environmentally conscious production and transparency in sourcing and manufacturing practices.[11][9] Ellie Dinh was on the Forbes 30 under 30 list in 2017.[18][19]
