Gisle Johnsen

Gisle Johnsen is a veteran of music, technology, and education, patenting new technologies[1] and founding new businesses[2] over the course of decades.

Gisle founded Bergen Live, the largest concert promotion company in Norway, which launched with a Rolling Stones concert in 2006 and was bought by Live Nation[3] in 2020. Gisle was also chair of the Board of the music festival Bergenfest for the past 25 years.

Through the years, Bergen Live and Bergenfest produced historical musical concerts from Paul Simon, Paul McCartney, Metallica, Bruce Springsteen to Rihanna, and became one of the largest and most renowned music events in Scandinavia and a cultural phenomenon in the city of Bergen.[4]. In 2020, Gisle resigned as Chair of the Board for both Bergenfest and Bergen Live, as Live Nation, the largest live performance company in the world, bought the majority of the Bergen Live shares[3]

In addition to his businesses with live music, Gisle invented and produced several music composition and education software tools. Gisle co-founded the company MUSIT i 2000 which introduced the combined sequencer and notation program Musicator to the global market[5]. Musicator became the first CD-Rom music program to be exported into China for music education. Gisle has authored several books, two musicals and multiple records.

In 2005, Gisle founded Music Delta, an interactive e-learning platform for music. In 2004, Gisle invented the stem-based multitrack interface and founded oiid[2], the first interactive music app presenting music in stem format in 2010. He then founded SoundPlay in 2020.
