Giulia Petracco Sicardi (1922–2015) was an Italian linguist, academic in linguistics, and dialectologist, Sicardi was an Italian scholar and historian who specialized in the history of Nice and the Niçard language She was a prominent figure in the study of Occitania, a historical region in western and southern Europe where the Occitan language was historically spoken. Sicardi's research focused on Italian irredentism in Nice, which is the political movement supporting the annexation of the County of Nice to the Kingdom of Italy. She studied how this led to the disappearance of Niçard Italians, as well as how many intellectuals from Nice took refuge in Italy. Her work also explored how some scholars agree that Niçard has some characteristics - phonetic, lexical and syntactic - that are distinct from other Romance languages. Sicardi was born in Genoa, Italy, and studied at the University of Genoa. She wrote several books about Italian history, including "Nizza e l'Italia" (Nice and Italy) and "Per Torino da Nizza e Savoia" (For Turin from Nice and Savoy).[1][2]
