Origins[edit]

In 1921, Glamorise established its design studio and business office in Manhattan, where it remains today. From its inception, the company has been exclusively dedicated to making products for full figured women. Since 1921, all products have been designed in their New York City studio, and the company has developed many advanced products through proprietary and patented designs.

Inventions and patents[edit]

By 1935, Glamorise had been granted its first two patents; for a brassiere and a corset.[1][2] Over the decades, Glamorise added dozens of other patents in garment design and manufacture. In 1970, Glamorise received a United States Patent for its renowned Magic Lift bra design.[3]

In 1975, Glamorise introduced a revolutionary concept: the first bra designed specifically for athletic use, the "Free Swing Tennis Bra".[4] The Tennis Bra was the world's first sports bra, and Glamorise has continued to focus on innovation in sport bra technology.

Their most recent sports bra patent, granted in 2013, is for the double layer custom control bra, with hybrid compression and encapsulation design along with adjustable bounce control.[5]

Early advocate for inclusiveness and body positivity[edit]

Glamorise has long sought to advocate inclusiveness and body positivity. As early as 1964, Glamorise advertised in Ebony Magazine with special designs aimed for a broader palette of skin tones.[6][7] In 1980, the company launched an early body positivity campaign with its own "Big, Beautiful, Woman" ad campaign.

Current day[edit]

To this day, Glamorise continues to design and fit all products in New York City, and its Glamorise design studio has been in continuous operation for almost 100 years - the longest of any American bra design studio.
