Plot[edit]
The show is set in Warsaw in the mid-1970s, during the final years of communist rule in Poland. It follows three emancipated and sophisticated women from different backgrounds who are brought together by their shared desire for freedom. They decide to start providing sexual services to enjoy life on their own terms. As communist Poland opens up to the West, each of the three women must navigate the shifting social and political changes while striving to find independence, financial freedom, and love.
Helena (Magdalena Poplawska) works for the security service. Her job involves blackmailing important individuals for sensitive information. Helena is tough and determined, but she also struggles with the morality of her job and the toll it takes on her personal life..
Pola (Wiktoria Filus) is a young woman who is trying to leave the sex industry behind and start her own business in the shampoo industry. Pola is resourceful and ambitious, but she also faces obstacles from those who want to keep her down.
Marysia (Matylda Giegzno), the youngest of the three, is mostly disengaged from the world around her. Marysia spends most of her time in a trance-like state with her on-and-off partner Jurek. She is dismissive of authority and commands, and struggles to find her place in the world.
As the series progresses, the women confront a range of challenges, including sexism, corruption, and personal struggles. In an era of sexual freedom, while all three end up working as sex workers, they have other ambitions in life - including finding fulfilling relationships. In the end, they discover that their lives are interconnected in unexpected ways, and they must work together to overcome the obstacles in their paths.

Production[edit]
Glitter (Brokat) is a Netflix original series produced by Telemark. The show was created by Anna Kazejak, Julia Kolberger, Marek Lechki, and Rafal Skalski. The series was filmed on location in Warsaw, Poland.
Reception[edit]
Glitter (Brokat) has received mixed reviews from critics. The performances of the cast have been singled out for praise, particularly that of Wiktoria Filus and Lukasz Simlat. Martin Cid Magazine referred to the show as, "A depiction of an era that counts on a very elaborate production and is well worth watching, particularly, for its good reconstruction of an epoch and the good atmospherics. With good photography, scenography, and performances."[1] Decider commented, "Shows set in the ’70s, especially ones that have come out during the past few years, reduce the decade down to its worst features, like polyester leisure suits, bad sideburns and facial hair, disco music and lots of cocaine. Even if the storytelling is solid, sometimes the 'Seventies of it all' distracts from that story. So we appreciate shows that make the decade more of a background character than the main attraction. A new drama from Poland does just that."[2] The show has been commended for its portrayal of the social and political climate of Poland in the 1970s and for its exploration of the struggles faced by women during that time.
