Global Oneness Day is an international observance celebrated on October 24[1] intended to promote greater oneness and a sense of unity among human beings.[2]
Initiation[edit]
Global Oneness Day was initiated on May 20, 2010, when members of the nonprofit Humanity’s Team delivered a petition with 52,000 signatures to the United Nations to request that the U.N. help nurture a greater sense of Oneness and unity in humanity. Ambassador Anwarul Chowdhury hosted the Humanity’s Team Global Council on behalf of the United Nations. Chowdhury agreed with the petition’s basic goals, reasoning that the UN’s efforts for peace and security depended on a sense of solidarity among the peoples of the world. He invited Humanity’s Team to organize the initial Global Oneness Day activities.[3]
In July of the same year (2010), Humanity’s Team began work on creating an official Global Oneness Day to coincide with United Nations Day on October 24. Both observances share a vision for building a compassionate and sustainable world. The first Global Oneness Day took place on October 24, 2010, and brought together 1000 people from around the world on an international phone call.
Since 2010, Global Oneness Day has grown each year in its scope and activities, as Humanity’s Team produces extensive annual online programming each October around the theme of Oneness. In 2021, there were over 500,000 participants.
The event now brings together speakers from diverse fields whose work incorporates ideas and practices promoting the Oneness of people and planet. Panelists have included spiritual leaders such as Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Neale Donald Walsch and Marianne Williamson, innovative systems thinkers such as Ervin Laszlo and Riane Eisler, indigenous and environmental activists such as Xiye Bastida and Chief Phil Lane, Jr., and conscious business proponents such as David Korten and Jon Ramer.
Nearly 100,000 signatures have also been collected for the Oneness Declaration crafted by Humanity’s Team.
