Global Plant Council (GPC)[1][2] is a global coalition of plant science organizations, both research institutions and professional associations. The GPC was founded in 2009, and registered in Switzerland in 2013. Since 2018 it is incorporated in Canada as a not-for-profit corporation. Presently it counts 27 members.
Summary
The Global Plant Council[1][2] is a global coalition of plant science organizations, both research institutions and professional associations. The GPC was founded in 2009, and registered in Switzerland in 2013. Since 2018 it is incorporated in Canada as a not-for-profit corporation. Presently it counts 26 members.
The goal of the coalition is to facilitate the development and promotion of plant science for global challenges, including food safety, climate change and biodiversity, highlighting the impact of plant science for society.
The organization provides a hub of resources promoting advances within plant scientific research and an independent forum for the broader plant science community[3], via its online presence and meetings, policy statements[4][5][6], working groups, in-person events, and publications[7][2].
The community has an active working group focused on Digital Sequence Information (DSI)[8] and an Early-Career Researcher (ECR) International Network (ECRi) devoted to assisting ECRs.
The coalition is headed by an elected board with representatives currently from Australia, Argentina, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, India, Japan, UK, and USA.
