Gloria Swanson Fold Holmes (1923 – August 31, 2020)[1] was a mathematician, statistician and programmer for the National Bureau of Standards from 1952 until 1968.

She was born in Oakwood, TX in 1923 to Pinkney and Roxie Ann Rhodes Ford. She attended Mary Allen Junior College in Crocket, TX and completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics at Tillotson College in 1944. While at Tillotson, she joined Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and maintained active membership throughout her life.

She later attended Howard University and earned her master’s degree in mathematics from American University. Her career spanned more than four decades as a mathematician, statistician and computer programmer for the National Bureau of Standards and the Social Security Administration. While at NBS, she worked in the Applied Mathematics Division, Computation Section. Gloria worked in the Computation Laboratory under Milton Abramowitz.[2]
