The Golden Indie Music Awards (GIMA, Mandarin: 金音創作獎), or Golden Indie Music Awards for short, is another special music award in Taiwan after the Golden Melody Awards. It is organized by the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development, as is the Golden Melody Awards for Popular Music, but it is mainly for independent music.[1] In addition to the single award (which also accepts digital music works), it also weighs the domestic music ecosystem and creates awards for seven different genres: rock, folk, electro, jazz, hip-hop, rhythm and blues, and alternative pop.[2]
History
Since 2010, the Government Information Office (GIO) has been organizing the "Golden Indie Music Awards" to encourage music creation in Taiwan, focusing on the development of multi-genre music and recognizing Taiwanese bands and creators through the award. The Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development was established in 2012 and took over the organization from the then-defunct Government Information Office. The award was given to Taiwan's music industry.[3][4]
In addition, the Golden Indie Music Awards has a single category and accepts several releases, as well as awards in four different genres: rock, folk, electro and hip-hop.
Starting from the 2nd edition, the Jazz and Rhythm & Blues awards were introduced, and in the 5th edition, the Best Style category was introduced (the Rhythm & Blues category was eliminated) to cover a wider range of musical styles, and the Best Live Performance, Best Musician and Overseas Composition awards were also introduced.
