Gordon Lindsay Maitland

Gordon Lindsay Maitland AO OBE RFD ED (25 August 1926 - 18 October 2018) [1] was an Australian soldier. Enlisting at 17 in 1943, he obtained his commission in 1947 and rose to the rank of Major General. In retirement he was active in public and business life, including as chief executive officer of the Royal Agricultural Society [2], and in senior roles with the Commonwealth Bank.

As a military historian he was the author of 'The Second World War and its Australian Army Battle Honours' (Kangaroo Press, Sydney, 1999), 'The Battle History of the Royal New South Wales Regiment' (Simon & Schuster, 2001), 'Honours and Awards of the Army' (Playbill, Sydney, 2014)[3] and several other books.
