Grace Church Plano (formerly known as Grace Outreach Center) is a non-denominational, multicultural megachurch located in Plano, Texas. Founded in 1982 by Pastor Gerald Brooks and his wife Geni, the church has grown to a weekend attendance of over 5,000 people. As of 2022, the church is led by Lead Pastor Jessie Prince.[1][2]
History and Leadership
Grace Church Plano was established in 1982 by Gerald Brooks, who served as the founding and senior pastor for four decades. Under his leadership, the church grew significantly and established a reputation for its focus on Christian leadership development.[3] In recognition of his ministry's diversity outreach and impact on people of various ethnicities and cultures, Brooks was inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers at Morehouse College in April 2010.[4] Brooks also founded the Gerald Brooks School of Leadership (GBSL), a Bible college located in Plano.[5]
In 2022, Jessie Prince was appointed as the Lead Pastor of Grace Church Plano. Prince had been with the church since 2001, initially serving as an intern before becoming an Associate Pastor leading the Young Adults Ministry, and later serving as Executive Pastor starting in 2009.[1]
Community Outreach and Ministries
Grace Church Plano is known for its extensive community outreach programs, particularly concerning food insecurity in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The church has launched food banks in seven local schools.[6]
In March 2020, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Grace Church partnered with retired Dallas Cowboys player Travis Frederick and his Blocking Out Hunger Foundation to open "Travis' Food Pantry" at Huffman Elementary School in the Plano Independent School District. The pantry, sponsored and financially supported by Grace Church, provided consistent food assistance to roughly 100 families per week during the early months of the pandemic. By the end of April 2020, the church's congregation had collected over 8,600 pounds of food for the pantry and other local organizations such as Minnie's Food Pantry.[7]
The church also operates various internal ministries, including GraceKids for children, GraceYouth for middle and high school students, and LifeGroups for adult small group gatherings.[8]
