Graduate Studies Endowment Fund
The Graduate Studies Endowment Fund (GSEF) at the University of Waterloo (UWaterloo) was established in 2001–2002 through a graduate student referendum.[1] Graduate students voluntarily pay a $20 charitable contribution to GSEF each term with tuition and other ancillary fees. GSEF funding is used to support various graduate student programs, initiatives and student-led projects across campus. While GSEF partners with the GSA and GSPA, GSEF is autonomous from these and operates at arm’s length. Notable financial contributions to infrastructure upgrades across campus have most recently been made towards the Graduate House[2] patio and the Student Life Center/ Physical Activities Complex expansion.
GSEF operates under a constitutional framework, most recently amended in 2021 through a referendum, later approved by the University's Board of Governors.[3] The GSEF Board of Directors oversees operations, supported by three officers: The coordinator, vice-coordinator and treasurer (the vice-coordinator position was introduced to GSEF in 2021 to support the coordinator and increase communication and on-campus presence).
