Gramener is a data science company founded in 2010 and headquartered in New Jersey, United States.[1] It develops customized data solutions for business, social, governance and environmental problems based on design-led Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Gramener has offices in four countries and seven locations worldwide. Locations include New Jersey, California, Ontario, Singapore, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. The company has about 190 employees.[citation needed]

It serves over 100 clients from five major industries: Pharma & Life Sciences, Media & Entertainment, Technology, Finance, and the Public & Civil sector.

Gramex, an open-source visual analytics framework, is one of the flagship products of Gramener. It is a low-code framework to build data solutions rapidly.[2]

AI for Good[edit]

Gramener has partnered with Microsoft for the latter's “AI for Good” initiative, which uses artificial intelligence to tackle wildlife and environmental issues. These include the World Mosquito Project,[3] penguin counting initiative[4] and identification of fish species.[5]

Recognition[edit]

The company partnered with the World Bank to create an explorable data story, "Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship: A Data Exploration". This won the 2017 Kantar Information is Beautiful Award under the "Science and Technology" category.[6]

In 2020, the company was listed among The Financial Times High Growth Companies in the Asia-Pacific region[7]. It also ranked 62nd in The Economic Times and Statista’s list of 150 fastest-growing companies in India.[8]

History[edit]

Gramener was founded in 2010 by a team of former IBM and BCG leaders.[9] In 2015, it made its open-source visual analytics platform Gramex available to the developer community. The company defines Gramex as, "A simple open-source way to build data-based web apps with less code." [10]

In 2017-18, the company founded its AI Labs unit to work on innovative AI solutions and Story Labs, a research team that narrates data stories in innovative and engaging formats.[11] [12]

In 2019, Gramener launched a free comic creator called ComicGen [13], which has over 15 comic characters portraying different emotions and poses.
