Granite Telecommunications, LLC is an American local exchange carrier headquartered in Quincy, Mass. The company provides voice and data products to non-residential business and governmental organizations in the United States and Canada.[1]

2002 to 2007[edit]
Granite was founded in 2002 by Chief Executive Officer Robert (“Rob”) T. Hale and his father, Robert (“Bob”) T. Hale, Sr.[2] At the time, Regional Bell Operating Companies had not integrated their billing systems across their multiple mergers, resulting in businesses with locations across state and Regional Bell Operating Company lines receiving multiple bills from multiple systems, which created logistical challenges for business customers.[3] By aggregating local voice Plain Old Telephone Service (“POTS”) lines and consolidating phone bills for multi-location companies, the company grew revenue to $206 million in 2007.[4]
2008 to 2014[edit]
By 2010, Granite was recognized in telecom industry trade press as one of the largest competitive local exchange carriers (“CLECs”) in the United States.[5]
By 2011, the company served more than one million lines and 6 percent of all non-incumbent business analog lines.[6]
In 2013, FastCompany magazine published a feature detailing the company's high growth rate through its atypical focus on “boring” POTS services.[1]
In 2014, Granite generated $1 billion in annual revenues.[7]
2015 to Present[edit]
In 2015, the company launched a Metaswitch multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) data network[8] and targeted large retail malls, where the company's Granite Grid product enabled retail customers to scale up bandwidth on-demand. The service also served as a conduit to provide wireless backhaul capacity to mobile operators.[9] Granite Grid was implemented in 100 malls in 2015[10] and the company's revenues for all products and services were $1.1 billion.[11]
In 2016, the company expanded operations in locations that included Atlanta,[12] Orlando,[13] and West Palm Beach, Fla.,[14] and had annual revenues of $1.25 billion.[15]
In 2017, Granite was one of ten companies approved to supply $50 billion in voice and data services to governmental agencies for a 15-year period under the General Services Administration’s (GSAs) Enterprise Infrastructure Services contract.[16] Following the GSA announcement, the company opened offices in McLean Va.[17] and would later hire additional key government contracting personnel in support of its government business.[18] Operations also were expanded in Lincoln, RI.[19] Revenues for 2017 were $1.35 billion.[20]
In 2019, Granite announced annualized revenues of $1.5 billion.[21]

The company promotes a philanthropic culture that has resulted in acknowledgements for both the organization and its CEO,[24] the most recent of which are Corporate Citizen and Most Charitable Company awards based on 2018 cash contributions of $24,281,751.[25] The most notable of these activities its annual “Saving by Shaving” event[26] in which participants receive buzz cuts in support of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

I started on this as an extension of the telecommunications service providers page, as Granite was the only of the featured $1billion+ global providers without a page. I made some changes at user:dgg's request but we have not closed those out together. It's now time for me to start gathering data for another update to the main telecom service provider's page (updated annual revenues are mostly available) so I am resubmitting as I believe the main issues with the page have been resolved and it appears that DGG is too slammed to close this out.
