Grant Alexander MacCusker (born October 1984) is an award winning[1] British businessman and tech entrepreneur.[2] He was the founder and CEO of Alexander Crombie Property Management[3](2010–2015), is currently founder and CEO of Letting Cloud[4] (formed in 2019) and co-founder and Chairman of Student Rents[5] (formed in 2021).

Early life and education[edit]

MacCusker was born in Edinburgh and attended Lorne Primary school[6] and Leith Academy[7] and left education in 2000. Attending Telford College[8] to pursue a SVQ in sport and then graduating with a degree in sports science from Napier University.[9]

Career[edit]

In 2009, MacCusker took redundancy[10] from his leisure industry job at Edinburgh Leisure[11] and started out on his business career.

After taking redundancy, MacCusker created GM Cleaning Services in 2009, a residential and commercial cleaning[12] company based in Edinburgh,[13] this was to be the start of his entrepreneurial career.

In 2010 MacCusker launched a letting agency called Alexander Crombie Property Management[14] where he aimed to take on the large players in the Edinburgh property industry. In 2013 Alexander Crombie Property Management was awarded Letting Agency of the Year at the Landlord and Letting Agent Awards[15] with the awards being presented by Homes Under The Hammer.[citation needed] In 2015 Alexander Crombie was acquired by a large estate agent for an undisclosed fee.

In 2019, he created a property advertising portal called Letting Cloud, which has UK coverage of properties to let from holiday lets, short and long term rentals and commercial property. Letting Cloud[16][17][18] and its founder and CEO[19][20][21][22] have won a variety of awards to date. Since the launch of Letting Cloud they have challenged the large property advertising companies so far and already have a foothold in every major city in the UK giving the company a valuation of over £10million with MacCusker owning 100% of the business.

In 2020, he created a podcast series called Brain Fuel Podcast, which has featured guests including former SAS Who Dares Wins Staff[23] Colin MacLachlan and Zeeshaan Shah, the 2013 former The Apprentice star.

In 2021, MacCusker alongside his co-founder Jamie Stewart[24] set up Student Rents, an online property portal for student accommodation. The pair completed a successful investment raise of £470,000 in 2022 valuing the company at £4.5million after one year of trading.

As a mentor and early stage investor, MacCusker loves to see start up businesses come through and do well in the UK.

Recognition and personal life[edit]

MacCusker is a car enthusiast, and supports Rangers and enjoys watching Scotland at Rugby.

In 2010, MacCusker and his business GM Cleaning won BT Young Entrepreneur and BT Young Business of the Year.

In 2019, MacCusker was included on the GBEA Entrepreneur of the Year Award finalist list.

In 2020, MacCusker was a finalist at the GBEA Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

In 2021, MacCusker was a regional winner at the Tech Nation Rising Stars 4.0 and also a GBEA Entrepreneur of the Year Award finalist for 2021.

In 2022, MacCusker was a regional finalist in the 2022 GBEA Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

In 2022, MacCusker was named as one of Edinburgh’s Most Impressive & Successful CEO’s in the Information Technology Space by BestStartup.co.uk

In 2023, MacCusker was invited onto the judging panel for the Scotland Tech Nation Rising Stars 5.0 finalists.[25]

MacCusker and his partner Alexis Stewart have two children.
