Grape Juice was written by Paul-James Green between April and May 2019, with the first draft being completed on the 21st May 2019.
Background
On Monday 5th August 2019, the script received its first read through in Ainsdale, Southport. The cast featured; Emma Wells-Hall as Clarissa Stockwell, PJ Green as Adam Stockwell, Kerry Baratinsky as Georgia Stockwell, Jennifer Corcoran as Samantha Evans, Kyle Harrison-Pope as Bailey Evans, Sam Armistead as Tom Evans and Helen Bennett as Mrs Brent.
Following the success of the read through, the play was redrafted into a longer and more substantial piece. The changes included the development of Adam's relationship with Georgia and Tom. This draft also saw the name of Bailey Evans change to Jake Evans. Another change was the creation of the character Connor Molloy (A part originally planned for Marcus J. Foreman, but due to other acting commitments, he was unable to take up the role).
On Monday 30th September 2019, the second draft script received its read through at the Southport Little Theatre. Due to commitments and changes, the cast for this version changed. Green and Bennett remained in the roles of Adam Stockwell and Mrs Brent, respectively, but Corcoran moved into the role of Clarissa Stockwell, with Angela McIntyre playing the part of Samantha Evans. Other changes to the cast featured Lyndsey McCowen, Ellis Coulter and Sam Ashton in the roles of Georgia Stockwell, Jake Evans and Connor Molloy, respectively. Due to last minute casting issue, Ashton played both the parts of Connor and Tom Evans.
Following this read through, Paul-James Green, Angela McIntyre and Jennifer Corcoran sat down and discussed how the play could really be developed, with the creative input of Sam Armistead. On the 10th November 2019, plans for the 2020 production were set in motion...
