The Greater Essex Combined Authority (GECA)[1] is a proposed combined authority for the ceremonial county of Essex, also known as Greater Essex, in the East of England.[lower-alpha 1] The authority is planned to include Essex County Council, Thurrock Council, Southend-on-Sea City Council and the Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner. The authorities and commissioner will remain independent of each other but will make joint decisions over powers devolved to Essex by the UK Government.[9]

Proposals[edit]

South Essex Combined Authority[edit]

Proposed in 2015, the South Essex Combined Authority (pictured in red) would include the unitary authorities of Thurrock and Southend and the non-metropolitan districts of Brentwood, Basildon, Castle Point and Rochford.
