Gregory John Haupt (October 9, 1981 – April 5, 2022)[1] was an American musician, songwriter, and designer from St. Louis, Missouri. He was the former rhythm guitarist for the rock band Story of the Year and contributed to their early work. He left the band before the release of the band's debut album Page Avenue (2003) and was replaced by Philip Sneed. He also performed with regional bands like Adair, Princeton, and Feel Good Inc. Outside of music, he worked as a designer, photographer, and videographer.
He passed away on April 5, 2022, at the age of 40 after a two-year battle with stage 4 colorectal cancer; his wife Megan passed away suddenly from cardiac arrest just a few months later in August 2022, leaving behind their three children. Community members organized a GoFundMe campaign to support the children.[2]
Career
In November 2002, Haupt was in the band Adair when the members of Story of the Year recruited Haupt as the band's rhythm guitarist.[3] The group tracked "Anthem of Our Dying Day", "Until the Day I Die" and "Razorblades".[3] However, before they planned to return to the studio, Haupt left the group over creative and personal reasons. The band spent the following seven weeks writing more music and searching for a new guitarist before eventually recruiting Philip Sneed from the band Maybe Today.[3] Sneed provided rhythm guitar for the rest of the album. In September 2003, Story of the Year released their debut album, Page Avenue through Maverick Records.
