Greg Licholai
Dr. Gregory P Licholai is an American entrepreneur, public intellectual, and journalist known for his contributions to the healthcare industry.[1] He currently serves as Chief Medical and Innovation Officer at ICON PLC, a global healthcare intelligence and clinical research organization. Dr. Licholai also teaches at Yale University, where he earned his MD, and Harvard University, where he received his MBA.[2][3] He is a contributor for Forbes and is currently based in Boston, Massachusetts.[4]

Greg Licholai received his BA from Boston College in English and Philosophy in 1982 before completing a premedical certificate at Columbia University, where he worked on the surgical transplant team at St. Luke's Hospital.[8] In 1990, Dr. Licholai began his studies at Yale Medical School. During his second year of medical school, he was awarded the National Institutes of Health Howard Hughes Medical Institute fellowship and worked in an NIH laboratory as part of their medical scholar’s program.[9]
Greg Licholai went on to complete a residency in neurosurgery, receiving his training at Brigham and Women's, Boston Children's, and Massachusetts General Hospitals[10], three of the premier research hospitals in America. Before his current capacity at ICON PLC, Licholai held instrumental roles that underscore his influence.[12] Dr. Licholai's career features leadership roles in multiple successful initial public offering (IPO) biotechnology companies.
Dr. Greg Licholai notably held the position of President at Elpidera, the Rare Disease Venture Company, under the umbrella of Moderna Therapeutics.[13] In this role, he was instrumental in driving the advancement of rare disease products, particularly focusing on targets that were previously considered undruggable. Leveraging Moderna's groundbreaking messenger RNA Therapeutics platform, Dr. Licholai and his team utilized an innovative in vivo drug modality. This platform has the unique capability of producing human proteins or antibodies within patient cells. This groundbreaking approach facilitated the rapid transformation of scientific innovation into tangible therapeutic solutions for rare diseases.[14]
Greg Licholai's expertise and contribution to healthcare extend to his tenure as Chief Medical Officer of Castle Creek Pharmaceuticals, where he played a pivotal role in the development of treatments for rare dermatologic and head and neck conditions.[15] As a member of the founding executive team, Dr. Licholai held a key role in overseeing the company's comprehensive research and development initiatives, technical operations, medical affairs, and the formulation of scientific, regulatory, medical, and clinical strategies. Castle Creek Pharmaceuticals focused on the development of innovative topical therapies, with a particular emphasis on addressing the devastating disease Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex. Dr. Greg Licholai held the position of Vice President & General Manager at McKinsey Solutions, a groundbreaking client service division of McKinsey, from 2010 to 2015.[17] The division's offerings facilitated informed decision-making and the development of organizational capabilities. McKinsey Solutions were tailored to meet the needs of clients, either as stand-alone services or in conjunction with the traditional consulting services offered by McKinsey.
