Gregg Masuak (born September 11, 1959) is a Canadian filmmaker and director known for his work on music videos in the late 1980s and 1990s.

Early life and education

Masuak was born in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada.[1] He studied filmmaking at North Sydney Technical College and earned a BA in Communications from the New South Wales Institute of Technology (now UTS).[2] His final-year short film, The Mary Quant Masque of Death, won 'Outstanding Film' at the London International Film Festival.[2]

Career

Masuak gained recognition directing music videos, notably for Kim Wilde's You Keep Me Hangin' On (1986).[1] He directed videos for artists including:

  • Kim Wilde: Another Step, Say You Really Want Me, You Came[1]
  • Kylie Minogue: If You Were With Me Now, Give Me Just a Little More Time[2]
  • Take That: Pray (Brit Award 1994), Babe (MTV Europe Award)[2]
  • Spice Girls: Who Do You Think You Are (Comic Relief sketch version)[3]

Masuak directed the inaugural broadcast for Channel 5 UK featuring the Spice Girls in 1997.[3] His 50-minute dark comedy film, Born With Glasses, won the Gold Hugo for Best Comedy/Satire at the Chicago International Film Festival.[4] He also directed the AIDS Alliance commercial Come Together, which received a Bronze award from the PM Society.[5]
