Gregor van der Burght
Gregor van der Burght Van der Burght studied law and civil notarial law from 1964 to 1969 at the University of Amsterdam. He obtained his PhD in 1973 at the same university with Prof. Adriaan Pitlo on the thesis Het wettelijk deelgenootschap (The legal partnership between spouses). In 1978 he became professor of private law, notarial law and notarial tax law at the VU-University Amsterdam. From 1982 until his retirement in 2013, he was also part-time professor of family- and inheritance law at the University of Curacao (Dutch Caribbean). From 1985 Van der Burght was involved as project manager with the Berkerjasama Indonesia-Belanda tentang Hukum (Cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands in the field of law). In that capacity, he developed courses for the law faculties of Indonesian state universities for the training of Indonesian university teachers until the end of the project in 1992. After 1992 he continued this work for private universities. Some of his books were translated and published in Bahasa Indonesia.
Publications He has published many publications, including since 1977 the two manuals in the Pitlo series: Persons- and Family Law and Law of Succession (Gouda-Quint / Kluwer, Deventer) and the two parts of Parliamentary History Book 4 BW Inheritance Law (Kluwer, Deventer). In 2012 his Dutch Caribbean Inheritage Law and the second edition in 2016 were published by Wolf Legal Publishers. In the Weekblad voor Fiscaal Recht (WFR), he wrote articles about inheritance tax (inheritance tax) and also in the Weekblad voor privaat recht, notariaat en registratie (WPNR) on matrimonial property and inheritance law. From 2005 to 2013, he was editor of Fiscaal Tijdschrift Vermogen (FTV). He was also editor-in-chief of Estate Planner and of the loose-leaf Kluwer publication Erfrecht. He published some works for the international forum.
Other activities His interest in legal developments abroad is evident, among other things, from his publications, many guest lectures and visiting-professorships both in Europe (KU Leuven) and beyond; McGill University, Montreal. [5] The liber amicorum that he received when he left the VU was entitled: To push boundaries in the service of law (Kluwer, Deventer, 2009). That same year he was named Knight in the Order of Orange Nassau. From 2001, he also started to delve into extrajudicial conflict resolution and practice mediation in his practice. He was co-founder and first chairperson of the Stichting Nalatenschapsmediation Nederland that endeavors to prevent or resolve (family / company) conflicts derived from death by ante-mortem and post-mortem mediation. From 2001 until March 2014, he served as Honorary Justice in the Court of Appeal of The Hague in the family chamber.
