Gretchen Felker-Martin (born 1989) is an American horror author and film critic. Before her debut with Manhunt (2022),[1] her works were available on platforms like Patreon and Thuban Press. Her critical writing has appeared in Fanbyte, Gawker, and Nylon.[2]
Early Life
Felker-Martin grew up in New Hampshire and lives in Massachusetts.[3] Her childhood in New England inspired her aesthetic sensibilities:
As a kid I ran pretty much wild in the woods... That visual palette, dead leaves and moss and fiddleheads and lady slippers, that was very influential to me.[4]
Writing Career
Fiction
Felker-Martin's first novella No End Will Be Found (2017) was published by Thuban Press.[5] Her second novel, Ego Homini Lupus (2019), blends historical and occult fantasy elements.[6]
Her third novel, Dreadnought (2020), is a science fiction work inspired by the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion.[7]
Manhunt (2022) is a post-apocalyptic novel set in a near-future New England, following two trans women surviving a viral plague.[8]
Other Media
Felker-Martin has contributed to anthologies like Mirror Mirror II (2002) and Beyond the Book of Eibon (2021).[9][10] She collaborated on the comic Skin Deep (2019) with Garrett Young.[11]
Reception
Manhunt (2022) received critical acclaim.[12] Carmen Maria Machado called it "a modern horror masterpiece."[13]
