Griffin Hammond is an American YouTube personality and documentary filmmaker in New York City, known for producing DIY filmmaking tutorials for indie filmmakers, and his award-winning documentary Sriracha.[1]

Early life

Hammond was born in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, on July 14, 1984.

Hammond attended Illinois State University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication and Media Studies in 2007 and went on to also earn a Master's Degree in Communication in 2009.[2]

Griffin's first high-definition camera was the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1.

Filmmaking career

He is a documentary filmmaker who offers DIY advice to aspiring filmmakers on his eponymous YouTube channel, which currently has more than 60,000 subscribers. He released his award-winning documentary Sriracha in 2013.

Hammond discovered his passion for documentary filmmaking at Illinois State University, inspired by Associate Professor John McHale in the School of Communication. He also cut his teeth shooting tons of news stories for TV-10 and getting involved with the Documentary Project student organization.

Indy Mogul

Griffin Hammond hosted the "Indy News" series on Indy Mogul from December 2011 to December 2013 as a way to touch on current news in the indie filmmaking world, while also providing a way to help indie filmmakers get their stories told.

Sriracha

An example of his documentary-style work, Sriracha was released in 2013 and has been called ”gorgeously shot” by the San Francisco Chronicle, and won Best Short Film at the NYC Food Film Festival. Hammond exploited the hot sauce's cult following and was easily able to crowd-source assets for his film, including music by Roy Magnuson, Liam Taylor & Si Pettit[3], and credit sequences by Dylan & Mallory Simonds[4].

GH5 Promotional Video 'HAND-CUT'

Hammond was selected by Panasonic to be a brand ambassador for their new flagship micro 4/3 camera the Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 because of his enthusiasm and historical use of Panasonic's GH series of cameras. To show what the camera can do, he shot a short documentary about the interesting uses of ice around various bars in New York City. [5]

Hey Indie Filmmakers

On December 28, 2016, Hammond and Nick Bodmer started making video-style podcasts on http://hey.film talking about what is going on in their lives and answering fan questions. [6]

Bloomberg News

In 2014, Hammond moved from Bloomington, Illinois to New York City to cover the U.S. presidential election for the Bloomberg Television/MSNBC show With All Due Respect.[7]
