Grigory Georgievich Smirnov (Russian: Григóрий Геóргиевич Смирнóв, Grigoriy Georgievič Smirnov) (born 22 November 1982)[1] is a Russian composer and pianist living in the United States.

Biography

Grigory Smirnov was born in Novosibirsk, Russia (then Soviet Union). He studied piano at the Novosibirsk Music College and composition at the Novosibirsk Conservatory. He won a composition prize at the IV Prokofiev International Competition. He moved to the United States in 2008 for graduate studies at The Juilliard School. He had a fellowship at the Tanglewood Music Center in 2011.

Grigory Smirnov's music has been performed in various music festivals, including Tanglewood (USA), Brevard Music Center (USA), Composers Now (USA), International Diaghilev Festival (Russia), ppIANISSIMO (Bulgaria), and Blue Lake Summer Arts Festival (USA). Among his notable recordings is the album "Dowson Songs • Chaconne"[2][3], released by Naxos Records in 2016. Grigory Smirnov collaborated with Robert Sherman on the musical story "Why the Aspen Tree is White".[4][5]
