Gritt B. Nielsen

Gritt B. Nielsen (born March 21, 1975) is an associate professor at the Danish School of Education (part of Aarhus University) in the Department of Educational Anthropology. Her research interests include students' political participation, student activism and movements, and the compatibility of upholding inclusion and social justice values and academic freedom.[1]
Education[edit]
Nielsen earned an MA degree in Social Anthropology from the University of Copenhagen and a PhD in Educational Anthropology from Aarhus University.
Career[edit]
Nielsen joined Aarhus University as an assistant professor in 2010, quickly working her way to Associate Professor. She teaches and supervises the MA degree programs in Anthropology of Education and Globalization, which are taught in both English and Danish, and serves as a co-superviser of PhD students.
Research[edit]
Nielsen's research focuses on ethnographic studies on change processes within higher education with a focus on students’ shifting forms of participation in political and pedagogical arenas. She is the project coordinator for the "Fighting for e/quality" project.[2] Nielsen hopes to gain insight into the contestation between political and academic aims across public universities in USA, the UK, South Africa, and Denmark.

Honors and distinctions[edit]
Based on a manuscript competition, Nielsen's book proposal ‘Figuration Work’ (2015) was selected, and she was offered book contract with a prestigious publisher in the field of Anthropology (Berghahn), in their flagship European Association of Social Anthropologists series.
