Grudge! is an Australian grindcore punk band hailing from Melbourne, Victoria.[1] The group coined the term GRUDGECORE, which suitably describes their sound. Genres such as heavy metal, grindcore, hardcore punk, sludge metal, and technical metal have influenced the GRUDGECORE sound.[2]
History
Grudge! officially formed in 2013, from an earlier project: Freight Train Theory, that began in 2007. Original FTT band members: Rusty Neocortex (Drums) & Frank Grudge (Vocals), joined Erik Ritli (Guitar) in 2013, with the addition of Mat Sykes (Bass) in 2017.
All band members have substantial music careers that span 20+ years and cover all sub-genres of heavy music. Rusty who started FTT is an electronic music producer and DJ under the guise of Neocortex.[3] Erik Ritli played guitar for Embodied[4] & Excarnated[5], Frank gave vocals for A Greed Science[6] and Inhumaine[7], and Mat still plays bass in Strict Vincent[8].[9]
The bands debut release and self-titled EP: Grudge! was released on April 9th 2014[10], after which, the group spent two years playing underground heavy music gigs across Melbourne, giving themselves time to build a body of work, before they were ready to drop the full length studio album No Acceptance.[11]
On February 20th 2016, Grudge! released the "No Acceptance" album,[2] recorded at Goatsound Studios[12] in Melbourne, with mix engineer Jason Fuller from Blood Duster.[13][14] No Acceptance was produced, mixed and mastered by Rusty Neocortex and Grudge! at Rest-Less Studio. The "No Acceptance" single: Stray Venom was released only a few weeks before the album drop on February 9th 2016.[15]
A few months later, the guys joined forces with fellow Sydney band Disparo! to release the Grudge! / Disparo! [Split EP] on May 9th 2017.[16] Grudge! followed with their own EP: Frail Minds & Empty Shells[12] on September 4th[17] before releasing another joint project: Grudge! / Povarotti [Split EP] on September 13th 2017.[18]
Grudge! have forged their mark onto the Melbourne underground grindcore scene playing alongside some of the best Heavy & Fast Aussie bands.[19] Black Jesus, Hailgun, Intense Hammer Rage, Brazen Bull, Disparo!, In:Extremis, Fat Guy Wears Mystical Wolf Shirt & Black Rheno (to name just few.) Also the odd internationals like Sick Times, In:Defense, Graves & ShitRipper.
In 2016, Frank Grudge started the annual event, GrudgeFest, an extreme music festival featuring a diverse range of Australian underground heavy music. The festival held in Brunswick, Melbourne, originally began as a launch for the No Acceptance album[20], but since its debut, has dug in its heels and in 2017, showcased 13 of Australia's best hardcore bands from across 4 states. Notable acts included Shame Worn, Uncle Geezer, Grudge!, Facegrinder, International grind duo Dead Root, Drive Time Commute, Headless & Black Jesus, plus many more.[21] Grudgefest returns in 2018, for a Melbourne and (debut) Sydney show!
In early 2018, Grudge! embark on their first national tour. Taking off in March, Grudge! play shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle & Brisbane as they head up the east coast with brothers in crime Disparo! and Povarotti. Later in the year Grudge! anticipate an international tour.
