Background[edit]

Medical Service Dogs, or Assistance Dogs, are individually trained to perform tasks to assist people with physical disabilities, invisible chronic illnesses, and mental health disorders. Tasks can include but are not limited to retrieving dropped items, weighted fields for those with mobility issues to encourage standing and ambulation as well getting them out into the community where they otherwise may not go due to anxiety or fearfulness.

The Medical Service Dogs trained by Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs make a profound difference in someone's outlook on life from one of isolation to one of confidence and independence. In their first 12 years, they've donated more than 380 service dogs in 29 different states. Of those who received medical service dogs, they have a zero percent suicide rate, showing how impactful these service dogs are to those in need.[1].

Training[edit]

Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs utilizes a positive reinforcement training method and focuses on preparing the dog for the recipient's condition and everyday distractions. Each applicate is also reviewed in-depth to ensure they are receiving a medical service dog that will meet their individual needs. "The minute we got together, we went out to the store, and as soon as we got in the line at Walmart, she just went behind me and stared at the person behind me. What I found out, that’s called their guarded position. They’re not told to guard, but the idea is they have your back".[2].

Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs is committed to serving those in need with highly-trained service dogs that alleviate the challenges associated with permanent conditions such as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), traumatic brain injury, diabetes, or other conditions!
