Guillaume Dubarry

Guillaume Dubarry, comte Dubarry (ou du Barry) et de Roquelaure, later seigneur de Reynerie (1732 - 2 August 1811) was a French aristocrat, most notable for his marriage of convenience to Jeanne Bécu (later better known as Madame du Barry), arranged by his elder brother Jean-Baptiste Dubarry. This enabled her official presentation at court, becoming Louis XV's last official mistress and gaining Jean-Baptiste and Guillaume access to major royal patronage.

Life

Youth

He was born in Lévignac. The Dubarry name is first recorded near Toulouse in the 15th century, with its family arms being "de gueules à une tierce d'or posée en barre, un lion contourné de même brochant sur le tout et une autruche d'argent posée au canton senestre de la pointe".

Issue

In 1769 he had had a son by his unlegalised marriage to Madeleine Lemoine, Alexandre Edmé (nicknamed Lolo) Dubarry, who became a lieutenant colonel, a knight of the Order of Saint Louis and an officer of the Légion d'honneur, also becoming one of the founders of the Société archéologique du Midi de la France in 1831, six years before his death.
