A member of the Radical Party, Bahamonde represented Coelemu and Talcahuano from 1912 until his death in 1915. During his first term, he was a member of the Permanent Commission of Government and served as a substitute member of the Permanent Commission of Elections.[1]
He was reelected for the 1915–1918 term and served on the Permanent Commissions of Elections and Government. His parliamentary activity included the introduction of bills concerning construction, paving, electrical services and economic matters.[1]
Biography
Bahamonde was born in Concepción in 1878, the son of Rodolfo Bahamonde Larenas and Flora Hoppe Galilea. He studied humanities at the Seminario Conciliar de Concepción and later studied law at the Liceo de Concepción, qualifying as a lawyer on 3 July 1903 after submitting a thesis to the Supreme Court.[1]
From 1896 until shortly before qualifying as a lawyer, he worked as first official of the Intendancy of Concepción. In 1905 and 1906, he served as secretary of the Court of Letters of Talcahuano, resigning at the end of 1906 to practice law in the city.[1]
He represented several wholesale firms in Concepción and Talcahuano and also served as attorney for the Municipality of Talcahuano. At the same time, he taught law and Spanish at the Instituto Comercial de Talcahuano.[1]
Bahamonde also served on several occasions as acting governor of Talcahuano, substitute judge and acting public prosecutor. From 1907 until his election to Congress, he was a member and secretary of the Talcahuano Chamber of Commerce.[1]
He died in Santiago on 26 August 1915, shortly after beginning his second parliamentary term.[1]
