Anhui Gujing Gongjiu Co. Ltd. (Chinese: 安徽古井贡酒股份有限公司), known simply as Gujing Gongjiu (Chinese: 古井贡酒; pinyin: Gǔjǐng Gòngjiǔ) is a company headquartered in Gujing, Bozhou, Anhui, China that specializes in the production, sale, and distribution of baijiu. As of 2023 Gujing is ranked as the seventh most valuable spirits brand internationally.[2]
History[edit]
The origins of Gujing begin nearly 2,000 years ago, during the late Han dynasty. In 196 AD Cao Cao, the warlord poet, presented a liquor recipe from his hometown of Qiaoxian to the last Han leader, Emperor Xian. This recipe survives today as the basis for "Gujing Gongjiu" which is sometimes colloquially known as "Cao Cao liquor" in honor of the statesman himself. This gift of liquor was the first "tribute" that gives the name "Gongjiu" to the spirit itself.[3][4][5][6] In 1515, the foundation for a group of fermentation cellars was lain. These fermentation cellars have remained in continuous use for 500 years.[7] In 1959 this fermentation cellar as well as the surrounding cellars and distilleries were integrated into what is now the modern Gujing Distillery.[8]
Gujing Gongjiu acquired Huanghelou Distillery in 2021.
