Gunzilla Games is a European AAA video game developer headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, and with offices in Kyiv, Ukraine, and Los Angeles, California. The company was founded in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 2020 by entrepreneur Vladyslav Korolev and Alexander Zoll, a former board member of Crytek. [1][2]. Most of Gunzilla Games’ directors and many creative disciplines, including art, design, development, and marketing, are located in the company’s Frankfurt office. Engineering, programming, operations, support, and backend experts at Gunzilla Games work in the Kyiv office. The company's Los Angeles office currently serves as a base of operations in the United States. [3] Gunzilla Games is developing an unannounced AAA multiplayer shooter IP. [4] In July 2021, the company announced that Neill Blomkamp, the Hollywood film director, screenwriter, and producer, known for critically acclaimed films such as District 9, Elysium, and Chappie, and founder of Oats Studios, has joined Gunzilla Games as Chief Visionary Officer. History
In March 2020, Vladyslav Korolev and Alexander Zoll founded Gunzilla Games and became CEO and CSO, respectively. Gunzilla Games also became part of Gamegroove Capital, an organization that helps build, fund, and grow IPs and services for games, which was also founded by Vladyslav and Alexander. Timur Davidenko, a former technical director at CryEngine and contributor to games like Far Cry and the Crysis franchise, joined Gunzilla Games as CTO that same month. [8]
Scott Probin joined Gunzilla Games as Game Director in July 2020. He previously produced and designed multiple games in the Need for Speed and EA Sports NHL franchises at Electronic Arts, and also worked on classics like Populous 2 and Powermonger. [9].
In August 2020, Olivier Henriot joined the company as Executive Narrative Director. Prior to this, he worked for Ubisoft for 19 years, contributing to the narrative of games such as Assassin's Creed, The Division, and Far Cry, among others. [8] Richard K. Morgan also joined Gunzilla Games as screenwriter that same month. [10] Richard is the author of the science fiction book series Altered Carbon, adapted into a TV series by Netflix. He is also the author of two Black Widow comic books and contributed as a scriptwriter for Crysis 2 and the 2012 remake of Syndicate. [11]. Luke Davis joined the studio as executive producer in August 2020. His previous work includes Star Citizen, Total War, and the PlayStation 4 launch title Driveclub.
In November 2020, CEO Vlad Korolev gave his first interview, outlining the studio's plans, discussing company culture, and sharing initial details about the game. [3] In January 2021, Vlad gave a further interview, emphasizing company culture, discussing the gaming industry, and highlighting Gunzilla Games' unique aspects. [12]
In February 2021, Volodymyr Savin joined Gunzilla Games as audio director. He previously led audio design for Metro Exodus. He also created PRIPYAT Pianos, an audio plugin used in the HBO series Chernobyl. Art Director Jussi Keteli joined in March 2021, having worked on the Gears of War series and Star Citizen.
In May 2021, Gunzilla Games announced their first game would be developed using Unreal Engine. [13][14]
Gunzilla Games announced in July 2021 that Neill Blomkamp, the Hollywood film director, screenwriter, and producer, known for films such as District 9, Elysium, and Chappie, joined the studio as Chief Visionary Officer to define the in-game vision. [15][16][17][18]
