Gursharn Singh Randhawa

Gursharn (Gursharan) Singh Randhawa, Ph.D. is an Indian, and a professor in the Department of Biotechnology at IIT Roorkee. He was born on February 6, 1953. He is the pioneer of B.Tech Biotechnology program at IIT Roorkee.

Education and career[edit]

Gursharn completed B.Sc. (Biology) from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India with First Division and obtained M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, India in Genetics, 1980. He became a Lecturer, Department of Biotechnology IIT Roorkee from 1984 to 1986. He has been a professor at the Department of Biotechnology, IIT Roorkee since 1996. He has been the Head of the Department for a span of three years during which he initiated the B.Tech. course in Biotechnology. He was succeeded by Professor Ritu Barthawal as the Head of Department. He has over 35 years of research experience and 25 years of teaching experience.[1]

His area of interest includes Molecular Genetics of Rhizobium-legume Symbiosis, Plant Molecular Biology, Human Genetics.

  • Biofortification of wheat for micronutrients through conventional and molecular breeding approaches. D.B.T., India: funding for Rs. 84, 34, 000.
