Gymglish

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Gymglish is an educational technology company with offices based in Paris, France and Tel Aviv, Israel. It develops, licenses, sells, and supports products mainly directed towards language learning. As of October 2018, Gymglish had over 3 million learners across the world, including over 6,000 companies and 100 language schools..[1]

History[edit]

Gymglish is operated by A9, a company founded in 2004[2] by Antoine Brenner, one of the founders of VLC Media Player[3], and Benjamin Levy, both HEC Paris graduates.[4] The same year, they released their first online language learning product, Gymglish.

In 2008, they released The Rich Morning Show, an English learning course directed towards beginners. Frantastique, their latest product, was released in 2012 and delivers online French lessons.

In October 2018, Gymglish, a self-funded company until then, opened its capital and raised €3 million from investors.[5]

Concept[edit]

Gymglish has a subscription-based business model, and delivers online language learning courses over their products:

  • Gymglish (English)
  • The Rich Morning (beginner English)
  • Frantastique FLE (French as Foreign Language)
  • Frantastique ORTHO (native/advanced French)

The lessons are designed by a team of certified teachers and the courses are powered by an artificial intelligence engine[6], based on the principle of spaced learning[7].

In 2015, Gymglish earned the right to deliver certified diplomas in France[8]. Frantastique followed and also delivers a certified training since 2018[9].

Reception[edit]

Gymglish is partnered with the French Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research since 2007[10], and works closely with universities across the world such as Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne[11] and the Université Paris V René Descartes[12] both using Gymglish as part of their English learning course in some Master's degree programs, the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid and the University of Berlin[13].

Awards[edit]

Shortly after its release, Frantastique received the "BEST OF-SOLUTIONS" award in Innovationspreis-IT 2013[14]
