The University of Hong Kong Rowing Club, commonly called HKU Rowing Club, is a rowing club affiliated with the University of Hong Kong. The club was founded in 1981 and is the oldest university boat club in the region. It was formed in 1981 by two professors in the faculties of Dentistry and Medicine at HKU.
Competitions
The University of Hong Kong Rowing Club is an extremely competitive club and has competed in numerous competitions. The club has sent entries and won awards in the Shing Mun River Regattas that are held on the Shing Mun River in Hong Kong. The club also participates in the Hong Kong Championships and the University Rowing Competitions in Hong Kong.
The club also regularly sends teams to "Harbour Regatta" at Victoria Harbour and the "Around The Island Race" around Hong Kong Island.
Rivalries and Partnerships
HKU Rowing Club has had a long-standing rivalry with the CUHK Rowing Club and competes against them in the Intervarsity Rowing Competition, which is modelled after the Oxbridge boat race.
The club also boasts special liaisons with Hosei University, Rikkyo University and Nippon Sport Science University Rowing Clubs in Tokyo, Japan.
