Hacfort (also: Hacfort tot ter Horst and: Hacfort tot den Ham) is an ancient noble family from Gelderland whose members have belonged to the Dutch nobility since 1814. The line died out in 1939.

History[edit]

The lineage begins with Bernt Hackfort, handsome, mentioned between 1436 and 1453. In 1711, Olivier Hacfort tot ter Horst (1670–1730) married Maria Cornelia van der Borgh, Lady of Den Ham (Vleuten) (1680–1757), the last castle in the Hacfort family came. Two of them are the ancestors of the respective branches "Hacfort tot ter Horst", owners of Ter Horst Castle in Loenen, and "Hacforts tot den Ham", owners of the castle Den Ham. The Ter Horst castle was commissioned by Wynant Hacfort, mayor of Arnhem. The first branch died out in 1939, the second in 1840.

By Souverein Decree of 28 August 1814, members of the two branches were appointed as knights of Gelderland and Utrecht, respectively, In 1822, the Hacfort tot ter Horst branch received recognition of the title of baron.
